The open-air deck makes you feel like you’re dining at a high-end restaurant, but the prices tell a different, friendlier tale. Dylan’s pick of chicken with Chinese spices was simply mouthwatering, and I might’ve stolen a few bites!

Tucked down an alleyway full of restaurants, you’ll wander through the large homestay before landing in the traditional warung called Da Compound. Everything here screams authenticity, from the palm leaf bowls your food is served in to the traditional nasi campur that Dylan and I agreed was the best we’ve had in Bali.
Not only is the food delicious and authentic, but it’s also slightly cheaper than other warungs. Whether you’re after big flavours or a unique dining experience, Warung in Da Compound is bound to impress.

Cosy, friendly, and surrounded by plants, Sun De Bisma Warung is perfect for those looking for a chilled environment away from the busy streets to sip on a deliciously creamy frappuccino or coffee.
We visited this little warung cafe several times, returning for the friendly hospitality and the clearly homemade and tasty spring rolls. However, they’re usually quite busy during lunch and early dinner, so we recommend avoiding these times to ensure you score a table.

Nestled in a quiet street near a cute villa we stayed in, Rona Warung doesn’t look like much but it was suggested to us by the villa owner and we were not disappointed!
Rona Warung offers hearty portions and the warmest vibes. The club sandwich surprised me with how fresh and flavourful it was, while Dylan (predictably) couldn’t get enough of the mie goreng. Expect big servings, friendly staff, and food that leaves you planning a second visit.

5. Sweet Orange Warung
Location: Jl. Kajeng, Ubud
Price Range: IDR 50k – 70k
Best For: Beautiful scenery, good atmosphere, great lunch spot


Getting to Sweet Orange Warung feels a little like an adventure itself, with its narrow path leading through rice fields (walking is recommended unless you’re very confident on a scooter). Set amidst open greenery, the vibe here is peaceful, making it a top pick for lunch after some sightseeing.
Being so close to one of the main tourist areas of Ubud, Raya Ubud, this warung felt a little less authentic and had higher prices. But the trip to Sweet Orange Warung is still worth it for their Balinese dishes and the beautiful scenery.
Their ayam sambal matah is the absolute standout, but skip the smoothies unless you’re craving something weirdly experimental.

WR Alami is proof that big flavour can come in small places. With seating for just around ten people and a modest, unassuming exterior, it’s the kind of spot you might walk past without a second glance. But if you do stop, you’re in for a real treat!
This cozy warung serves up flavourful Indonesian staples like nasi campur and perfectly grilled sate chicken, each dish bursting with authentic taste. Surprisingly, we also enjoyed a not-so-traditional burrito that, while not exactly authentic, is packed with saucy, bold flavours that will leave you pleasantly surprised.
One thing to note – the portions are on the smaller side. We ended up ordering three dishes to share, as two meals weren’t quite enough to fill us up for lunch.
